You know it’s Christmas when the John Lewis Christmas ad is shown on TV.
In the past their ads have been highly emotive, nostalgic and here at Gowns and Heels we are not ashamed to admit that we have even shed a tear over them. This year’s festive offering is promising to be just as highly emotionally charged.
At a cost of approximately £1 million, the department store has employed Adam&Eve/DDB, the agency that has created most of the department store’s commercials, to create a 60 second film featuring a CGI-animated penguin called Monty.
The heart warming story behind the advert is of a young boy, Sam, and his friendship with Monty the penguin. They go sledging, play LEGO, visit the park and bounce on the trampoline together, but Sam realises that Monty is lonely. So Sam decides to give Monty the one thing he really wants for Christmas, a female penguin, called Mabel. The message that comes across from the advert is that if you shop at John Lewis you will be sharing your love with your loved ones.
The soundtrack to the advert is a reworked Beatles song, ‘Real Love‘,which is performed by the Brit-winning singer Tom Odell.
The advert will be launched on social media tonight and will get its first TV airing tomorrow during the first commercial break of Channel 4’s Gogglebox.
We suggest you pop on some snuggly pyjamas, dim the lights and grab a glass of mulled wine. Yes, we know it’s only November, but hey if you can’t beat them then you might as well join them we say!
